Welcome to the inaugural edition of The Line, Lean In Network I Energy’s hub for the energy sector as we actively work towards empowering women in their energy careers, and achieving gender parity. While our combined mission and vision remains the same but simplified, our strategy has definitely evolved – it’s had to! For while the energy industry has made some steps forward, it still lags as a sector in terms of everything that counts for equity for women.
We continue with our key tools of connection such as Coffee Connections, Fireside Chats and Mentoring, but with a different voice, greater advocacy and value-filled events that change and challenge the usual and outdated rhetoric in this space. We are a 100% volunteer run, non-profit, and global virtual organization already partnering with other forward-thinking organizations in no-cost opportunities for challenging female stereotypes and offering connection for energy women – to change the sector, not fix ourselves!
Just as the energy sector is in transition, our organization continues to evolve under new leadership and commitment this year. Begun as Lean In Energy in 2015, today we are the only Leanin.org affiliated, non-profit organization that is sector-specific. With thousands of members and followers worldwide, and a mandate from LeanIn.org to officially change our name to Lean In Network I Energy (LINE), we are laser-focused on the importance of networking and collaboration in order to gain and share knowledge for intentional change. We are influencing and informing the important conversations taking place in energy corridors to advocate for the value of difference and gender parity to the systems and structures within which women work.
Accepting the status quo is over – there needs to be a greater than 20% share in the energy sector work population that women currently hold, and waiting thirty years plus for this change to occur simply isn’t acceptable. We want to make sure all women, regardless of color, geography or age, are treated equally and fairly with an appreciation for how their intellect and unique perspectives have contributed to the bottom-line, and how their contributions further the success of organizations through innovation and leadership in the transitioning energy sector.
