April Coffee Connections (AM)

We will be focusing this year’s Monthly Coffee Connections on Christine Williams’ book, Gaslighted: How the Oil and Gas Industry Shortchanges Women Scientists.

On April 13th, we will explore the third and fourth chapters of the book and analyze how this book can help us recognize and innovate the oil and gas field to cease the shortchanging of women.
The research in this book is a powerful commentary on the Energy Industry and its treatment of women – not only women scientists. ‘Organizational gaslighting’ is vividly explained being something usually not referred to in women’s self-help career books. As the author says, “This book is an effort to take women seriously . . . insider accounts reveal how male domination of this industry truly works, and what is at stake in attempting to challenge it.”

Join us as we journey through the findings of the research discussing its implications for women in the workplace, as we come to understand what Christine became convinced of – “that women do not leave high-paying professional careers unless they are forced out.”
